Artists Laura Kavanaugh and Ian Birse aka Instant Places have arrived for their 10 day residency at the gallery. From January 8 - 18, the duo will be creating audiovisual 'snapshots' throughout the new building- gallery rooms, stairwells, boiler room, freight elevator, etc. activating multiple building surfaces with image and sound transformations.
The artists create intermedia artworks on location using software instruments they design. In their practise they combine independent activity that is local and micro-scale with internet collaboration and broadcast events. Laura and Ian have been creating performances and installations as a team since 1997. In their work the artists focus on the moment of creation, combining improvised actions with sound and image sequences generated in real time.
