Instant Places Day 2 - Making Connections

It is day two of the Instant Places artist residency here at the gallery and Laura and Ian have settled into their space in the lecture theatre located on the second floor.  A few visitors have stopped by to speak with Instant Places about their project, eager to learn more about their intermedia artworks.

Ian mentioned that the duo haven't begun the actual audio recording of the gallery spaces quite yet, that they have been focusing on preparing for this evenings presentation and the upcoming broadcast of Art's Birthday on January 17.

The pair outlined that the goal of this evenings talk is to provide a framework for the audience, and themselves, about how Instant Places came to exist; from their beginnings 10 years ago to the present.  Ian explains Instant Places as this encompassing umbrella that incorporates different facets and interests in their production. He mentions that the generative art that they create moves between these different media's fluidly, allowing the artists to work in the moment and take inspiration from their surroundings.

The different media's found in the production of Instant Places works.

Laura and Ian will also demonstrate the home-made technology and software that they  use to capture live samples and audio snapshots.

During their residency the duo will be broadcasting live from the gallery, sharing their audio snapshots of the gallery spaces. Stay tuned to the blog for links to live broadcasts and updates.
