Upcoming Exhibition News!
We are thrilled to announce that this
February, the gallery will present a major survey
of masterworks by one of the most inventive and
influential artists of the 20th century: M.C. Escher.
Entitled M.C. Escher: The Mathemagician, the exhibition
features 54 works selected from the collection of the National Gallery of
Canada and includes prints that represent the different themes and areas of
study that fascinated this extraordinary artist. Organized by the National
Gallery of Canada and the Art Gallery of Alberta, the exhibition offers a unique
look at the span of Escher’s career, including examples of the artist's
experimentation with different print-making techniques.
Maurits
Cornelis Escher (1898 - 1972) is one of the world's most famous and recognized
artists. Images of his work are reproduced
and appreciated by millions of people around the world.
The
Mathemagician is slated to open Friday, February 1,
2013 as part of downtown Sarnia's First Friday cultural walkabout. Stay tuned for more information!
January First Friday:
Still from I am a Boyband Benny Nemerofsky Ramsay 2002. |
For January's First Friday events, the gallery presents two video works by Montreal-born artist Benny Nemerofsky Ramsay. Nemerofsky exhibits internationally and is well known for engaging and accessible videos. Utilizing security cameras and layering techniques, both I am a Boyband (2002) and Live to Tell (2002) are entertaining musical performances that are sure to shake you out of the January blues! Check out one video from the sidewalk before making your way upstairs for the other.
Benny Nemerofsky Ramsay (1973) is an artist and diarist. His creative gestures in video, sound, print and textiles contemplate the history of song, the rendering of love and emotion into language, and the resurrection and manipulation of voices – sung, spoken or screamed. His work has been exhibited throughout Canada, Europe and Asia and is represented in the collection of the National Gallery of Canada.
See you on January 4, from 6-9 pm for downtown Sarnia's First Friday Cultural Walkabout!
