Volunteers Get Inspired!

For the past few months gallery staff have been busy training volunteers for the opening of the gallery. Gallery docents and animators have been learning all about the opening exhibitions and artists, as well discovering more about Canadian art history. Those volunteering to be docents will be leading guided tours through the gallery, providing information to visitors about exhibitions and the artists. Docents also engage visitors in conversations about the exhibitions, enhancing their gallery experience. Gallery animators  or 'gallery watchers', are those who provide general information about exhibitions and artists, while not delivering a formal tour.

In the last few weeks volunteers have had the opportunity to experience and experiment with different artistic mediums such as watercolour, acrylic and pastels. This past week volunteers were exploring dry mediums like chalk, graphite, charcoal, conte and willow charcoal. The  material workshops have been directed by gallery staff member David Moore, who encouraged the group to experiment, to get a real understanding of the materials used by the artists, and to understand the difficulty in working with these artistic mediums.

We would like to thank this dedicated and enthusiastic group of individuals for dedicating their time to the gallery. We look forward to seeing the gallery spaces filled with visitors on their guided tours!

Opening celebrations of the gallery begin the weekend of October 5, 2012 during First Friday events!
