Spot the Sleeves!

You may have noticed a little something extra with your morning coffee! Last week the gallery unveiled our promotional coffee sleeves which have been designed by artist Ben Skinner, formerly of Petrolia. Staff members Kathleen and Jessica spent a day last week touring Lambton County delivering the coffee sleeves, which were met with a very positive reception!

The ladies at the Forest Golf and Country Hotel loved the new sleeves!

Tyson in Petrolia models the sleeve for the cameras. Looking good!

The Ben Skinner designed sleeves are easily recognizable with their robins egg blue colour and the catchy phrase Ask me about my first time. The saying is really up to the viewers interpretation, but we at the gallery feel it could mean your first art experience and even your first time in the new gallery! You can get your very own sleeve at many coffee shops and variety stores around the Lambton County including any Coffee Lodge location, Blackwater, Coffee Culture and Minglers.

The artist has also created a project website, www.askmeaboutmyfirsttime.com, where you can submit your own first time stories.

As well you can post a photo of you and your sleeve on our facebook page and you have the chance to win a year membership to the new gallery! The photo with the most likes in our Spot the Sleeve Contest wins!

Skinner's works will also be on display at the gallery with his exhibition SOMETHING HAD TO BE DONE, as part of of inaugural exhibitions. His works will be occupying non-traditional spaces around the periphery of the second floor of the gallery, and will be flowing out into the street in multiple 'transitory' public art pieces including the Hundreds and Thousands van wraps (see photo above). Two of our County of Lambton courier vans will be hitting the streets with Ben's playful sprinkle design.

SOMETHING HAD TO BE DONE will be on display at the Judith & Norman ALIX Art Gallery from October 5, 2012 - January 1, 2013. The public opening of the gallery kicks off Friday October 5th at 6:00 pm as part of downtown Sarnia's First Friday events!
