Keith Bantock examines a piece from the JNAAG's permanent collection, at his studio in London. |
Keith will explore the techniques and approaches he uses when restoring works of art, including materials used and the ultimate goal of conservation treatments. His repertoire of conservation work includes treatment of easel paintings, frames, painted objects and works of art on paper.
Recently, Keith was hired by the JNAAG to undertake a
treatment of two Walter Tolles's paintings, Goodbye Summer (Bonny Doon, Lake Huron), (1927) and View of Windsor Castle (1923), now on display in our permanent collection exhibition, Walter Tolles in Context.
Bantock received his Bachelors Degree in Art History from the University of Toronto in 1978 and his Masters in Art Conservation from Queens University in 1980. He has worked at the Canadian Conservation Institute and the National Archives in Ottawa, before opening Art Conservation Services in 1985. Keith was accredited as a fine art conservator by the Canadian Association of Professional Conservators in 1990.
Join Keith as he details his conservation process and shares a few stories from his unique profession.
