On Sunday afternoon Instant Places held an interactive, interpretive performance for visitors of the gallery. Using software provided and created by other artists involved in the sound art exploration community, participants could interact with the shapes on screen by moving in front of a web cam.
When asked how the technology responds to body movements, Ian explains that the objects on the screen mirror the physical processes taken by the webcam. So the blocks and shapes displayed in the screen are smart enough to understand that they are being hit by the physical force on the same plane! Laura and Ian also performed a few interpretive pieces to accompany the activity.
We will post a link shortly of the videos taken during the afternoon. Stay tuned for more updates.
