Stop by the gallery for another fabulous First Friday, as we celebrate Sarnia's downtown Cultural District with fun art-inspired events!
On Friday, February 1, the gallery will be buzzing with excitement as we open our doors to the public for the opening of two new and exciting exhibitions, M.C. Escher: The Mathemagician, organized by the National Gallery of Canada and the Art Gallery of Alberta, and Fluid Explorations, en exhibition featuring four Lambton County artists working in watercolour.
M.C. Escher: The Mathemagician, features 54 works selected from the collection of the National Gallery of Canada and includes prints that represent the different themes and areas of study that fascinated this extraordinary artist. Organized by the National Gallery of Canada and the Art Gallery of Alberta, the exhibition offers a unique look at the span of Escher’s career, including examples of the artist's experimentation with different print-making techniques.
Maurits Cornelis Escher (1898 - 1972) is one of the world's most famous and recognized artists. Images of his work are reproduced and appreciated by millions of people around the world.
The gallery is pleased to present an exhibition that looks at the artistic practice of these four talented artists, Josy Britton from Grand Bend, Ariel Lyons from Petrolia, Jane Hunter and Marlis Saunders, both from Sarnia.
Each of the artists is a master watercolour painter, but they also explore other mediums within the scope of their artistic practice. Fluid Explorations will include works in watercolour but will also offer a rare glimpse into some of their other artistic journey's and will include paintings in encaustic, acrylic and mixed media.
