Our celebration of the 1,000,050th birthday of Art with Instant Places has begun. Laura and Ian will be streaming live from the gallery from 2:00 pm to 12:00 am. EST. Although the gallery will only be open until 8:30 pm this evening, Laura and Ian will continue their live broadcast.
At the moment they are receiving a sound piece from an artist in Vancouver and transforming the work, changing the layers of the original piece and adding sounds, then rebroadcasting to the sound art community to be re-worked and transformed again.

Today The Network is Eternal!
"The artist must realize also that he is part of a wider network, Ia Fête Permanente [Eternal Network] going on around him all the time in all parts of the world.
--Robert Filliou, 1970
The Eternal Network is a post avant-garde formation of the ongoing international network of artists, that was originally organized by the creator of Art's Birthday, Robert Filliou.
How did the Eternal Network come into being? Filliou and George Brecht were forced to close their artist space La Cedille qui Sourit, located in Villefranche, France in 1968. Fillou's idea of the Eternal Network or "the Constant Festival" springs from the idea that the artist is part of a broader network, which surrounds him everywhere in the world.
Art's Birthday serves to reactivate an aspect of Filliou's intention of the Eternal Network. There are parties and celebrations in different cities across the world, gatherings in private studios, performances and events in galleries and for radio and internet based activities.
