The Fast Forward On-line Web Catalogue

With the preview of the Fast Forward On-line Web Catalogue taking place tomorrow during the gallery's First Friday events, we thought we would provide a background to the Fast Forward project, and what the new on-line catalogue hopes to achieve.

In 2010 a major artistic highlight for Gallery Lambton was the successful culmination of the contemporary, new media art programming project that we started in 2007 as a way to introduce video, sound, performance and installation based art practices to our community. In retrospect we have called this compilation of One Night Stands, screenings, performances and installations — Fast Forward.

By 2010, three years after the programming began, and as we began working on a major capital project to build the new art gallery, Fast Forward was reaching a natural end and a review was necessary. A series of exhibitions were developed and presented, that functioned both as a consolidation and a spring board to our future programming.

The last stage of the consolidation and reflection is the Fast Forward On-Line project. Working collaboratively with the artists who were key contributors to the original Fast Forward program, this on-line catalogue presents: a complete listing of the first year of the contemporary video art screening series with a selection of clips from some of the submitted video's; performance work and community presentations; essays written over the course of the three years; three new essays written by the major contributors to the program, Paul Couillard, Michael Waterman and Deirdre Logue; and a depository of the ephemera that was produced over the three years.

Fast Forward On-Line will serve the general public by providing access to the documented material of three years of contemporary new media programming. Over time, it is our hope that the site will support the development of a deeper relationship with new media and contemproary art practices for the community. We are excited to offer this site as a resource for other galleries, students and curators, to inspire them as they develop new curatorial strategies to introduce contemporary new media art practices to their own audiences.

Fast Forward On-Line was made possible with the support of the Canada Council for the Arts/Conseil des Arts du Canada through the Project Grants for Organizations in the Visual Arts program.

The Judith & Norman Alix Art Gallery is a department of the Corporation of the County of Lambton. We are grateful for the County of Lambton's commitment to bringing contemporary art and artists into our community

Join us for a preview of the Fast Forward On-line Web Catalogue tomorrow during our First Friday celebrations!  We are looking forward to hearing your thoughts and feedback. Doors open at 6:00 pm.
