The gallery is a buzz with construction and preparations for the opening exhibitions. Walls are being built in the exhibition spaces, paint colours chosen, and the reframing of pieces from our permanent collection that will be part of our opening exhibitions. It is thrilling to know that we will soon be hanging art in these spaces.
Construction of the exhibition walls have begun in the gallery space that will feature Canada on Canvas, a travelling exhibition organized by the Winnipeg Art Gallery, which traces
themes in Canadian Art from the 1800's to the 1960's and features over forty
works by a wide range of artists including Emily Carr, Cornelius Krieghoff, Tom
Thomson, Prudence Heward, Jean Paul Riopelle, many more.
Art Collection Officer Shelly Mallon is busy reframing pieces from the permanent collection that will be on display in the exhibition entitled, Core Sample. In this photo Shelly examines Franklin Carmichael's, Sketch for Leaf Pattern (1921) for framing. Core Sample will feature celebrated works from our collection and will highlight the importance
that private donations of art have on the development and on-going relevance of
the permanent collection.
The exhibitions will be open to the public the weekend of Friday October 5, during downtown Sarnia's First
