Permanent Collection Move

Although it took two years of planning the permanent collections move from it's former location at Gallery Lambton to the beautiful new collections space at the new gallery, the move went off without a hitch. Over the course of three days last week, gallery staff with the help of Armstrong Fine Art Services of Toronto, and Capes Movers Ltd of Sarnia, relocated over 1000 pieces from the vault to the new storage space.

Gallery staff member Dale Workman assists the movers during the first day of the collections move.

It was 'all hands on deck' as staff members were ready and willing to assist in any way they could. The relocation allowed staff members to become reacquainted with some of their favourite pieces, and for new staff members to become more familiar with the art.  It is extremely exciting to finally have the art in the gallery, and everyday we are getting closer to allowing patrons in to view pieces from our impressive collection.

Armstrong Fine Arts Services of Toronto tests out the loading dock of the new gallery while dropping off a shipment of the permanent collection.

Now that the art has been safely and securely moved to its new location, we can focus on preparing certain works from for the public opening of the gallery. Pieces from the permanent collection will be on display in one of the galleries inaugural exhibitions entitled, Core Sample, which will celebrate the importance that private donations of art have on the development and on-going relevance of the permanent collection.

Gallery staff are now busy preparing for the exhibitions and events for the public opening of the gallery, which will take place on the weekend of October 5, 2012.
