Taboo Tour 2012 a Great Success!

A view of the Judith & Norman ALIX Art Gallery during Artwalk 2012, that took place June 2-3 in downtown Sarnia.

This years Artwalk in downtown Sarnia was louder and more exciting than ever before! Taboo Tour 2012 presented by the Judith & Norman ALIX Art Gallery and members of RAAW, offered participants an exploration in sound art with workshops and performances by artists Michael Waterman, James Kirkpatrick, brother pus, Ruin and the legendary Nihilist Spasm Band.

The idea behind the Taboo Tour line-up came as a result of a few brainstorming sessions by the Random Acts of Art Workshop (RAAW) students. The group wanted to explore different ways in which sound could be connected to the visual arts. Participants of Taboo Tour 2012 had the opportunity to create their own instruments through the Bending Circuits and Seeing Sound workshops, while  NAISAtron workshops also allowed visitors to make their very own synthesizer.

The Bending Circuits workshop with artist James Kirkpatrick allowed participants to make their own instruments out of children's toys.

Over the weekend there were also many exciting performances by local and international sound bands such as brothers pus (Sarnia), Ruin (Toronto) and the Nihilist Spasm Band, well-known around the world for their exploration of sound.
